Skill Spark
Skill Spark - Branding and Illustration for Social Intervention Project
Major Design Project | University of the Highlands and Islands
Skill Spark is a socially-driven design intervention created to help young-adult students develop essential core and meta skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and self-management through engaging, hands-on creative learning.
This project takes a unique, design thinking approach by combining:
Bold branding and illustration to capture attention and create an inviting, youthful aesthetic that resonates with students.
Zines as both a learning tool and creative output providing accessible, digestible reading materials and also acting as a medium for self-expression during skill-building workshops.
Zine-making workshops where participants engage in creative processes that naturally foster the very skills being taught, turning learning into doing.
By embedding skill development into creative activities, Skill Spark not only communicates the value of these often-overlooked skills but also actively develops them in a supportive, peer-led environment.
The project was developed alongside my final dissertation, which explored the intersection of design, education, and social intervention, and was showcased in my Final Degree Show as a culmination of my academic and creative practice.
