Layers of Home

Layers of Home
A risograph zine for Isle of Riso, WASPS, 2025

Created in response to Isle of Riso’s 2025 exhibition brief, inviting 5 selected artists to explore risograph as both process and concept. Layers of Home is a visual zine that reflects on the layered, shifting meaning of "home." Drawing inspiration from the risograph’s distinctive method of building images through overlapping colour and texture, I explored how my own idea of home has evolved over time.

With minimal text, the zine tells a visual story shaped by memory, growth, and change. It draws on the nostalgia of storybooks, the familiarity of the house I grew up in, and the emotional terrain of leaving, returning, and becoming. Some things have remained, and others have transformed entirely. Through gentle, layered illustrations, Layers of Home speaks to the courage it takes to let go of certain spaces or people in order to grow, to love, and to discover who we are.

The risograph process involves colourful, imperfect, translucent overlays, and a tactile quality which I felt was a fitting metaphor for memory and identity: layered, sometimes messy, but ultimately beautiful in its imperfection.
